Imagine being labeled dumb, lazy, and stupid simply because you struggled with reading and couldn't keep up in class. That was my reality. But thanks to the unwavering support of my parents and a life-changing discovery, I embarked on a journey that led me to create Read Between the Lions for K-12 Readers, a revolutionary tool to help students overcome reading challenges and become enthusiastic learners.
In my early years, teachers' misunderstandings led to unfair labels of being unintelligent and unmotivated. Yet, my parents saw my true potential. They encouraged me to embrace diverse opportunities. I excelled in Boy Scouts and Little League Baseball, proving that triumph was possible despite my slow reading. Through perseverance and determination, I pursued a pre-med major in college, fulfilling my mother's dream.
A pivotal discovery during optometry studies revealed my reading difficulties were tied to visual issues. Armed with this knowledge, I became a behavioral optometrist, empowering thousands to overcome challenges and succeed.

Throughout the years, I have been introduced to many new reading programs. I was dubious about Read Between the Lions - was it just another magic pill? I listened to their program with an open mind. It began to make sense! I decided to give it a test run. Wow! I saw so many children had this tracking problem. How quick and simple the test was!
This vision problem is not caught with simple vision screening. Glasses do not help. Knowing the problem is only the beginning. The quick, fun exercises in the remedial phase told the success of training the eyes to track and make reading easier.
These remedial pages can be practiced with the student by an aide or a parent. Some teachers have used it as fun activities right in the classroom in small or large groups for the benefit of everyone. I have seen adults use the exercises to improve their speed and comprehension, much to their surprise.

If you have ever watched a person's eyes as they read, you already know that the eyes jump from one word to the next as you read. Coordinated jump eye movements are a keystone visual skill NECESSARY for reading. Both eyes need to work together for smooth tracking for reading. These micro jump eye movements are a result of the simultaneous and coordinated use of 12 different extra-ocular muscles, 4 intra-ocular muscles, and 4 separate cranial nerves. Statistically, across all ages and demographics, 20% of the general, global population would benefit from remediation to achieve coordinated jump eye movements.

In 10 minutes a teacher can practice two pages of accurate jump eye movements with a metronome. That's start to finish.
The teacher can graph the students performance over time and show the child how they are improving. Children are excited to see how they are progressing.

Accurate jump eye movements can be trained from 3 years old to over 100 years old. Age is not a factor on improvement. A person needs to practice to improve. Everyone everyday needs to practice RBTL. With practice everyone improves.

Comprehension increases when your eyes move accurately from one place to another.
If a student either over or undershoots eye movements, they have to do another eye movement to correct to the right position. This causes them to read slower or reread the material causing comprehension and fluency to suffer.

When you're in a state of flow while reading your eye movements are accurate and moving swiftly from one point to another. It feels like you can read and comprehend easily. With poor jump eye movements reading becomes laborious, frustrating and students give up easily.

Accurate jump eye movements are the keystone visual skill necessary for reading. Poor jump eye movements cause a teacher to spend extra time with the student to understand the material. By teaching accurate jump eye movements every day, a teacher can reduce the amount of one on one time with the inefficient students.
More money and teachers are needed for special education. Up to 80% of special education students have poor jump eye movements. The teachers complain the students can't track. There is a solution: teach accurate jump eye movements with RBTL.
