In 2010, the Reno Cigar Lions club began their Computers 4 Kids computer giveaway project. Their sole mission is to provide a free computer to every kid in school that needs a computer to use at home. They hold monthly computer giveaways, usually with 30 or more kids receiving instruction in the Linux system used to run their computers and being sent home with computers, monitors, and all the rest. Elementary students get desk tops and high school kids get laptops. It's an incredible program.

Beginning in 2020 we partnered with Cigar Lions. During their monthly computer giveaways we are there to help set up and stage the event and then we have the opportunity to screen any of the folks that are there! The kids are there with parents or guardians so we are able to screen kids with permission and then demonstrate the remediation to the parents and the kids. We record the age and test results to track our statistics and return the score sheets to the folks for their information.

We ask folks to add a free metronome app to their phones for use during remediation. We provide a kit that contains the 1,2,3 screening sheets, the touch the lions remediation sheets, the out loud remediation sheets, information about why jump eye movements are necessary for reading, a bookmark that has a QR for the website and information about RBTL and other FREE Lions programs and events, business cards for contact information, and a dry erase marker. The paperwork is encased in a sheet protector for use with the dry erase marker for touching the lions. We do everything we can to help get these kids on track for a lifetime of successful reading.

Our hope is that the folks go home and work the program and improve their reading skills.  And then share the program with others!
